Indian Institute of Oilseeds Research (IIOR), Hyderabad is a leading agricultural research and development institute that falls under the aegis of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). It came into existence in 1977 and operates out of Rajendranagar, Hyderabad. The Institute solely focuses on the promotion of oilseed crops that can be grown in a sustainable manner and are high in productivity. The crops include groundnut, sunflower, safflower, castor, and sesame. The efforts of IIOR are mainly put on all aspects of molecular genetics, breeding, agronomy, biotechnology, and plant protection that contribute to the generation of higher yields of oilseed crops. This institution also avails the students with Ph.D. in Agriculture (Oilseeds) program, i.e., it enables the students to pursue a doctorate under the ICAR entrance system. The students are financially supported based on fellowships like JRF/SRF and are also given the benefit of acquiring experience through practical research.
